English Defence Youth(EDY) was formed as the youth division of the English Defence League(EDL). After an event at a troops parade(detailed below) many young people began to realise how patriotic they felt towards Britain and the respect they held for British soldiers.
 People of Luton confront extremists
The English Defence League was formed by British patriots after Islamic extremists disgustingly staged a protest against British soldiers parading in Luton(left), holding banners calling them 'cowards', 'butchers' and 'war criminals'.
This protest was a step too far for most people and a voice was needed to represent and speak up for British citizens.
EDY was formed shortly after the EDL and has attracted young people from all over the country. EDL's aim is to peacefully protest against Islamic extremists preaching hate in Britain, to halt the growth of sharia law and to show support for British troops. The EDL has since held protests in Birmingham with dates set for future protests in other British cities (see events).
EDY is a non-racist group with members from various races. Membership is open to anyone, there are no restrictions based on colour or faith.  The English Defence League carry openly anti-racist banners such as 'Black and White Unite' and 'We hate the nazis as much as the extremists'(see right). As much as some sections of the media try to portray, or would like the EDL to be a 'far right racist group', this simply isn't the case.
 EDL Birmingham Protest
EDY is gaining more and more support from young British people who now feel they have a voice in a society that often shows them contempt. If you believe in helping to stamp out the danger of Islamic extremism in Britain then the EDY is for you.
